Following the launch of their first-person horror adventure game, 3Tower, in Early Access on Steam last week, Wechselbalg Studio has a special surprise for fans of the iconic Commodore 64. The developers have released a free C64 version of 3Tower, featuring its own unique challenges and gameplay mechanics.
This release, available through Wechselbalg Studio’s website, is described by the developers as more than just a simple port. It serves as “a heartfelt tribute” to the lasting legacy of the Commodore 64.
“We see this legendary machine not only as a part of computing history but as a vibrant medium for artistic expression,” the team at Wechselbalg Studio shared. “By supporting the C64 and launching new titles for it, we celebrate a platform that defined an era of creativity and imagination. We are all passionate fans of this innovative computer, and we believe that C64 games are not just nostalgic—they are cultural artifacts deserving preservation.”
The C64 adaptation of 3Tower retains the eerie essence of the original game while incorporating the distinctive audiovisual style of the platform. You can enjoy this version via VICE 64 or other emulators, or even on the original Commodore 64 hardware!
Meanwhile, Wechselbalg Studio plans to fully release the Steam version of 3Tower out of Early Access this December.
Blending immersive storytelling with tense exploration, driven by “unpredictable, systemic terror,” 3Tower places players in the role of a night watchman working a graveyard shift in a mysterious cemetery filled with restless spirits. The dead are controlled by three ancient towers, and if they falter, chaos ensues.
You must survive an entire 6-hour shift, managing these towers while facing an array of challenges each night. With unstable technology at play, you’ll deal with blown fuses, power outages, flickering monitors, and more. The spirits add an unpredictable twist, as they react dynamically rather than through scripted encounters.
