Indie Retro News: MILV - Bullet hell Amiga shooter 'Hyperborea' gets a new name and video!

In 2024, I’ve been sharing updates about Golden Code’s impressive Danmaku shooter titled ‘Hyperborea’. This game boasts not only stunning visuals but also a barrage of bullets and lasers, all running smoothly on a standard A1200 or above. If you’re eager to see the latest developments of what is now called ‘MILV’, here’s the most recent footage of the game in action on an actual Amiga.

When the game launches, I will provide a detailed review. For now, here’s what the developer has communicated regarding the video: “Experience true bullet hell on a stock Amiga 1200 at 304 x 256 PAL 50 Hz, featuring 2-player mode and hundreds of bullets!”

  • Main menu option to adjust background brightness for easier visibility.
  • In cases of frame drops, the game will briefly lock to 25Hz to prevent stuttering.
  • Revised enemy placeholders and added designs based on classic inspirations.
  • Satellite mode, currently accessible via a hidden cheat menu, where the second player’s ship follows the first and fires in coordination.
  • Various optimizations, a new scoring system, and adjustments to ship speeds for a more authentic experience.
  • Three levels of backgrounds have been prepared, with enemy designs prioritized last.
  • A new title: “Missile Intercepting Lethal Vehicle” (M.I.L.V.), a nod to iconic titles like SWIV.
