On September 14, 2024, Cloanto unveiled the “R4” (10.4.0.0) update for
Amiga Forever 10 and
C64 Forever 10.
The “R4” build represents nearly two years of development, marking version 10 as one of the longest-running major releases to date.
This update is free for current users of version 10, who can access it via the Help/About dialogue in Amiga Forever and C64 Forever. The full updated installation package and ISO image are also available through the Help/My Downloads and Keys menu and will remain accessible for at least 10 years post-purchase.
New and improved features since the initial release include:
- Enhanced touch and multi-touch support
- Improved logging features (Help/Developer menu) with easier access to previously separate log files (e.g., software installation)
- In a “Merge platforms” environment (e.g., having both Amiga Forever and C64 Forever installed), an update check in one player will now also check updates across all players and plugins
- A new Export/Import tool for backup and configuration transfers between computers
- New resize and zoom capabilities for emulation windows, including “fine resize” via Alt+drag, optimized for high-DPI displays
- Revamped handling of guest (emulation) windows, resulting in better lagless drag support
- Improved recognition of emulation windows by screen capture and recording applications (such as OBS, Streamlabs, and Twitch)
- Faster title editor and tab loading due to new asynchronous functionality
- Support for additional game controller types
- Enhancements to the RP9 Toolbox, Setup Wizard, Arcade mode, and fullscreen emulation
- Improved internet modem capabilities, now including Telnet options
- Enhanced Type Clipboard Text functionality, incorporating new replacement rules for unavailable characters
- Optimized CD and DVD file systems, especially for GNU/Linux and Amiga environments lacking Rock Ridge support
- Better compatibility for “portable” installations without requiring admin privileges
- Refined RP9 property handler for File Explorer, Windows Search, etc.
- Enhanced Windows theme integration
- Support for several recent system features introduced in Windows 11 24H2, including requirements for Microsoft Store versions of Amiga Forever and C64 Forever
- Numerous additional improvements, including fixes for all known bugs (see the Changelog for more details)
Open-source components such as the WinUAE, WinFellow, and VICE emulation plugins, along with the FloppyBridge library, have also been updated to their latest stable versions.
