Indie Retro News: Starforce - A fantastic 1980s Arcade shooter is coming to the Amiga AGA via Acidbottle

Acidbottle is no stranger to IndieRetroNews, especially with the recent news story about two Arcade games for the Amiga, Defender and Centipede(beta). Well, while he is still working on Centipede, he’s also turned his attention to the 1980s arcade hit, Starforce! The ambitious AGA project has undergone a grueling development timeline. Acidbottle revealed that the journey began with early Scorpion Engine prototypes before heading over to modern AI tools to help accelerate and finalize the process. While a newly released development video suffered from poor capture quality and harsh YouTube compression, it confirms that the iconic shooter—originally known as Mega Force in North America—is finally making its way to the Amiga.

True to the mechanics of the original arcade game, players will pilot the Final Star through stages named after the Greek alphabet (wiki), dealing with a strict two-level weapon power system devoid of bombs or missiles. To heighten the retro experience, the game’s pulsing soundtrack will soon be scored by none other than IM76, though a dedicated high-score track which was omitted from the current arrangement. Furthermore, fans of the relentless original can also look forward to testing their reflexes against the game’s endless loop structure, and potentially the legendary “Infinity” stage that challenges players long after defeating the Omega target.
