Space Invaders: LC-Games’ C64 Adaptation of Taito’s Classic

Space Invaders - A C64 conversion of Taito's Space Invaders by LC-Games

Over the years, we’ve highlighted various versions of Space Invaders, from Havie’s Blitz Basic on the Amiga to our favorite, ‘Tiny Invaders’ by Pink/Abyss. Today, we’re excited to share another rendition of this classic: LC-Games’ full C64 conversion of the legendary arcade game created by Tomohiro Nishikado in 1978. To celebrate this release, check out the gameplay video provided by Saberman below.

Here’s a brief overview: “Space Invaders is a fixed shooter where players control a laser cannon that moves horizontally along the bottom of the screen, targeting descending aliens. The objective is to eliminate five rows of eleven aliens that traverse back and forth as they descend. Players are shielded by stationary defense bunkers, which are gradually destroyed by enemy shots or the cannon’s fire. Points are awarded for each alien shot down, and as players defeat more aliens, the speed of the aliens’ movement and the game’s music increase. Clearing all aliens triggers a new, more challenging wave, creating an endless loop of gameplay.”
