The legendary 1986 Konami arcade classic Life Force (Salamander) has made its way to the Commodore Amiga, thanks to a brand-new homebrew port by developer TjLaZer with the assistance of AI. Released as version 1.0, this adaptation brings the iconic Gradius spin-off to the Commodore AGA, including the A1200 and A4000. Players can finally experience the game’s two-player cooperative action and its unique mix of horizontally and vertically scrolling stages right on their classic hardware. The conversion faithfully captures the tense sci-fi action and the simplified power-up mechanic that helped redefine the shoot-’em-up genre forty years ago.
To run this port, you’ll will need an Amiga equipped with an AGA chipset, at least a 68020 processor, 2MB of Chip RAM, and additional Fast RAM. However, to truly replicate the smooth, speed of the original arcade classic, standard hardware won’t quite cut it. The developer strongly recommends an accelerator card, noting that while a 030 processor running at 50MHz will get you off the ground, a powerhouse 060 or a modern Vampire accelerator is ideal for the ultimate gameplay experience.
