On July 10th, ModRetro unveiled a range of new items in its web store, modretro.com. The standout addition is a vibrant new colorway for the Chromatic handheld, known as the Cloud version. This model mirrors the design of the existing six Chromatic handhelds but features a sleek white finish. The Cloud Chromatic also includes the ModRetro version of Tetris.
ModRetro is adding five new games to the handheld lineup, all playable on Game Boy Color systems. Among these, Sabrina: Zapped! is a re-release based on the “Sabrina the Animated Series,” originally launched in 2000 by WayForward. While it resembles the beloved title Shantae from the same studio, its licensed status has kept it less known compared to its more famous counterpart.
The other four titles are modern Game Boy games crafted by indie developers. They include Gravitorque DX, an enhanced version of the puzzle-platformer Gravitorque by nikalego, and First Contact Protocol by developer Ben Jelter. Additionally, there’s the metroidvania Wicked Plague from Locus-motion, and the robot platformer Self Simulated by Martin Gauer. All five titles retail for $39.99 each as cartridges.
ModRetro is also introducing three new accessories: a rechargeable power core for $29.99, which eliminates the need for AA batteries; a link cable priced at $14.99, enabling the connection of multiple Chromatics for multiplayer gameplay; and a $14.99 mod kit, allowing users to customize individual components of the Chromatic.
