Indie Retro News: Space Invaders 2

Over the years, we’ve encountered numerous iterations of Space Invaders, from Havie’s Blitz Basic variant on the Amiga to our favorite, ‘Tiny Invaders’ by Pink/Abyss. Now, we’re excited to introduce yet another version—Jimbo’s ‘PET Space Invaders 2’ for the Commodore PET, an upgraded take on the original game from 1980.

Jimbo shares his thoughts on this new game: “Taito launched the original Space Invaders arcade game in 1978, and in 1980, high school student Satoshi Matsuoka crafted a brilliant version for the Commodore PET. In 1979, Taito updated the arcade with Space Invaders Part II, which included more aliens and various UFOs. This new version of the PET game closely aligns with the 1979 Taito gameplay.”

Great news for Commodore 64 users! Saberman has informed us that ‘Space Invaders 2’ has been ported to the Commodore 64 by Milasoft, using the original PET code from Jimbo, who developed the PET edition featured earlier. This version offers bases reminiscent of the 1979 original, smoother bullet movements, vibrant colors, respawning aliens, and animated explosions. Below is the link to download this exciting update.
