In 1986, Sega launched one of the most iconic racing games ever: Out Run. Designed by Yu Suzuki, this arcade classic achieved remarkable commercial success and became one of the top-selling games of its era. With stunning graphics, excellent music, and high-speed track racing, it left a lasting legacy. Recently, a developer known as Reassembler has released a much-improved version of Out Run for the Commodore Amiga, aiming to correct what many considered “one of the worst Amiga arcade ports.”
This new version is an optimized port of Sega’s 1986 arcade game Out Run, built using the original 68000 assembly code, tailored for mid-range Commodore Amiga computers. Despite some compromises to adapt to the differences between the arcade hardware and the Amiga, the gameplay and graphics remain nearly identical to the original. It’s important to note that this is not an emulator; it’s a complete rewrite in assembler, prioritizing performance. Players will need to obtain the original graphics and audio data from the arcade ROMs themselves, as these are not included with the game.
