Indie Retro News: Introducing WinUAE 6.0.0

Indie Retro News: WinUAE 6.0.0

After months of beta testing filled with numerous fixes and enhancements, Toni Wilen has officially launched the new WinUAE 6.0.0. This update is heralded as the finest version of the Amiga emulator yet, featuring a complete rewrite of custom chipset emulation (Agnus/Alice and Denise/Lisa). Notably, Denise/Lisa emulation now operates in a separate thread, significantly boosting performance, particularly for CD32 users! I highly recommend updating if you’re a fan of classic Amiga games, as this version offers much-improved support.

Below is the comprehensive list of changes and enhancements. Toni remarked, “This is a major update to the custom chipset emulation, with almost everything rewritten. The chipset timing/synchronization in Fastest/JIT mode has seen significant modifications, which may lead to side effects and potential bugs, particularly in seldom-used features.”

Custom Chipset Rewrite:
  • – Almost complete rewrite of custom chipset emulation (Agnus/Alice and Denise/Lisa), achieving cycle accuracy in nearly all chipset components.
  • – Denise/Lisa emulation now runs in a separate thread, enhancing performance in accurate emulation modes.
  • – VPOSW/VHPOSW tricks are now cycle-accurately emulated without restrictions.
  • – Full cycle-accurate emulation of horizontal/vertical blanking, sync start/end, csync, and related pulses, both hardwired and programmed.
  • – Agnus and display counters are now individually emulated, supporting movements beyond the normal display range.
  • – All screen modes count total “display” lines for setting display height, even amid multiple V(H)POSW modifications.
  • – Interlace detection now operates based on vsync timing, similar to real displays.
  • – Accurate timing for BPLCON0 ERSY=1 without a connected genlock sync.
  • – Full support for AGA hires/shres bitplane and sprite horizontal granularity.
  • – Accurate NTSC LOL (long line) state emulation with correct horizontal shifts.
  • – Blitter channel sequencer accuracy is now near 100%, with ongoing improvements planned.
  • – Speed improvements to collision emulation with default set to full collision.
  • – New ultra extreme debug mode that reveals concealed bitplane and sprite pixels during blanking periods.
  • – Enhanced DMA debugger details.
Other New Features:
  • – Low-level keyboard emulation supporting various keyboard microcontroller models.
  • – PCI emulation for Matrox graphics cards.
  • – Updates for Voodoo 3 emulation.
  • – Emulation for A1000 512k WOM expansion.
  • – Introduction of RIPPLE IDE controller emulation.
Fixes:
  • – Resolved PCI IO mapping for Prometheus FireStorm bridge.
  • – Corrected mapping logic for Mediator 1200TX.
  • – Adjusted onboard RAM configuration for TekMagic.
  • – Fixed uaegfx Picasso96 blit operation when RenderInfo BytesPerRow is zero.
  • – Ensured GDI mode correctly releases resources when switching graphics modes.
  • – Addressed potential issues with RTG vertical blank interrupts.
  • – Fixed issues with FDI disk image support.
  • – Enhanced FPU precision in JIT mode.
  • – Fixed WASAPI mode crashes when removing sound devices.
  • – Updated chipset panel to include A1000 EHB Denise models.
  • – Improved window movement while clicking and dragging the title bar.
Updates:
  • – Default configuration now set to cycle-exact A500.
  • – Masked query for drive statuses to reduce boot delays.
  • – Improved CD32 CD reading processes for better optical drive performance.
  • – Fixed GUI issues regarding focus restoration after debugger exit.
  • – Enhanced handling of Amiga GPT partition types.
  • – Updated tree node states retained across sessions.
  • – Enhanced aspect ratio correction for integer scale resolutions.
  • – Added options for manual creation of uaegfx screen modes.
  • – Fixed crashes related to double-clicking the config tree view root node.
  • – Removed obsolete 16-bit host color depth support.
