Why weren’t any of these games released on Mother’s Day?
Although I am an American residing in Japan, I have yet to experience any of Nintendo’s Mother trilogy games. To be fair, EarthBound (also known as Mother 2) had one of the most notoriously cringe-worthy advertising campaigns of the 90s, which is quite a statement.
For those who played EarthBound when it made its debut in North America 30 years ago this month, the effect was immediate. Host Bob Mackey discusses with Reid Young, Charlie Verdin, and Everdraed from Fangamer to explore EarthBound‘s lasting popularity three decades later.
Description: Good Giygas, is EarthBound really 30 years old? Yes, and since we covered this cult classic SNES RPG nearly a decade ago, this time we’re taking a different path. In honor of three decades of EarthBound, this follow-up episode dives into the game’s fandom and the communities that formed after its quiet launch in 1995. Join Bob Mackey, Reid Young, Charlie Verdin, and Everdraed (all from Fangamer) as they reminisce about the old message boards and the small empires that emerged from them. A fuzzy pickle will never look the same!
