On May 16th, the gaming accessory brand 8BitDo unveiled its latest product: the 8BitDo Arcade Controller. This new arcade controller targets retro gaming enthusiasts and fighting game fans alike. Available in versions compatible with Xbox (X/S/One) and PC, as well as a standard version for Nintendo Switch, the controller is also promoted for competitive fighting gaming.

One notable feature of the 8BitDo Arcade Controller is its sleek design. Measuring only about the size of A4 paper at just 1.6 centimeters thick, it is significantly slimmer than traditional arcade sticks, making it more convenient for travel. While the durability of the controller hasn’t been explicitly detailed, 8BitDo has a reputation for crafting robust products, so expectations are high for this model as well.

The controller supports both wired and wireless modes, with wireless functionality enabled by a 2.4G connection. The standard version additionally offers Bluetooth capabilities. Users can expect between 20 to 40 hours of gameplay from the rechargeable Li-ion battery in wireless mode. All variants provide options for button remapping as well as button lock caps to prevent accidental presses.

Designed with esports in mind, the controller includes SOCD cleaning and tournament lock features. Magnetic foldable feet offer customizable control angles for user comfort, while a fingerprint-resistant Tempered Glass Faceplate reduces smudging. A non-slip Silicone Mat underneath ensures stability during gameplay. Moreover, the controller’s PCB features a hot-swappable design with sixteen low-profile mechanical switches.

The 8BitDo Arcade Controller is scheduled for release on July 15th in the United States and August 15th in Europe, with distribution in Europe managed by Game Outlet Europe. Pre-orders are currently available. In the U.S., the standard model will retail for $89.99, while the Xbox version will cost $99.99. In Europe, the expected prices are €89.99 / £74.99 for the standard version and €99.99 / £84.99 for the officially licensed Xbox model.
