After 42 years, a mini version of my beloved ’80s console has finally been developed, featuring an AMOLED screen!
During the ’80s, while competitors like the Atari 2600 and Intellivision battled for supremacy in home gaming, the Vectrex set itself apart with its built-in screen that displayed vector graphics reminiscent of arcade classics like Asteroids.
Unfortunately, the Vectrex didn’t achieve commercial success, but it has maintained a dedicated following amongst retro gamers over the years. Now, it’s poised for a revival as a micro console.
A new company, formed by Flynn’s Generation and Neo Reetro, has acquired the rights to the Vectrex and is introducing a Vectrex Mini. They will showcase prototypes at Gamescom 2025.
