Known for consistently ranking near the top of past editions with their stellar MSX1 shooters, the developer is staying true to tradition with this latest release. YokoXevi is a classic side-scrolling shooter that masterfully blends nostalgia with impressive technical achievements. According to the MSXDev website, the author’s core ambition was to craft a horizontal shmup—”yoko” meaning sideways in Japanese—heavily inspired by the legendary arcade classic Xevious, but enhanced with clever modern twists. GW’s-Workshop successfully pulls this off by squeezing multiple parallax scrolling backgrounds, multiplexed sprites, and rich PSG audio samples!
Audio/Graphics glitch – emulation related
Players pilot their spacecraft using either standard keyboard controls or a traditional joystick/gamepad configuration. Survival requires mastering a dual-attack system, forcing players to fend off waves of incoming aerial threats with standard forward shots while simultaneously deploying downward-directed missiles to neutralize ground targets.
