![Indie Retro News: Rastan - Another teased [UPDATE] to a fabulous WIP Amiga 500 and above Arcade game!](https://www.retro8bitshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/T3XLw-1170x630.jpg)
Amiga gamers here’s a news story that doesn’t feature any AI, and it’s BasementApe’s upcoming ambitious fan-made conversion of Taito’s 1987 arcade hit Rastan for the Commodore Amiga. Widely considered one of the definitive fantasy action-platformers of its era, the classic hack-and-slash title is being lovingly rebuilt for the platform by basementApe. This non-commercial passion project introduces completely re-worked character sprites and entirely re-imagined background environments. Remarkably, the engine is optimized to run smoothly on a stock Amiga 500 equipped with just a standard 512kb RAM expansion, successfully capturing the heavy-hitting atmosphere of the original arcade cabinet.
The latest demo showcases a collaborative effort of the homebrew scene, featuring a polished audio-visual package put together by a small team of creators. While basementApe handles the core programming, graphics, and castle music, the game’s driving soundtrack is bolstered by musical contributions from JMD and Tsak across the field and boss segments, alongside custom sound design. To accommodate different hardware setups, the project also features two distinct deployment paths. Players planning to run the game via floppy disk will only need a basic Amiga 500 setup with 512kb of Chip RAM and 512kb of other RAM, while a enhanced hard drive version is tailored for the Amiga 500+ and above, requiring 1.0 MB of Chip RAM paired with a 512kb RAM expansion.
