Indie Retro News: Luckyman - A Montezuma's Revenge inspiration for the Atari XL/XE by Lukasz

In the early 1980s, many of us enjoyed playing the adventure platformer ‘Montezuma’s Revenge’ on systems like the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Apple II, ColecoVision, Commodore 64, IBM PC, Sega Master System, and even the ZX Spectrum, known as Panama Joe. This captivating game featured treasure hunting, intricate rooms, puzzle solving, and an array of deadly traps and enemies, making us feel like Indiana Jones. Now, we’re looking forward to a modern take on that classic feel, as Łukasz “Luklab” Labuda has launched a new game inspired by Montezuma for the Atari XL/XE called ‘Luckyman’.

Here’s the latest update from the Atari homebrew community: “Our colleague Łukasz “Luklab” Labuda has once again created a game using the rarely utilized Advan Basic language. As I mentioned previously, Łukasz has been gifting us with a new game roughly once a year, and each one showcases his improving skills. He began with the simple ‘Game in a Line’, then progressed to ‘City Defender’, followed by the expanded ‘Pac-Time’ and ‘Pac-Time 2’ featuring a level editor. Now, we have the extensive game ‘Luckyman’, which fills an entire diskette.”
