Looking back at the last 10 years or more, a variety of retro gaming systems have been featured on this platform from the Amstrad CPC to the Sega Mega Drive. Today, we turn our attention to the ORIC for our retro gaming fix. Defence Force has reached out to us about the upcoming release of his new game ‘Encounter HD’, set to launch this December on Itch and Steam. This game is an upgraded and enhanced version of the 1983 text adventure game originally created by Severn Software. To accompany this announcement, we have more information and footage about the game below.
For those who were gaming in the 80s, titles like The Hobbit, Zork, Colossal Cave Adventures, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, and The Guild of Thieves may sound familiar. Encounter is a part of this genre of games, but has been adapted for a more modern audience who may find pure text adventures too challenging to immerse themselves in. The game strives to be as modern and advanced as possible within the technical limitations of the platform, including performance, resolution, color capabilities, lack of modern input devices, and storage space constraints. Encounter will be available for the 1984 Oric Atmos personal computer, running on a 1mhz 6502 processor with 64 kilobytes of RAM, loaded from a 360 kilobytes 3″ floppy disk.
