Indie Retro News: Deimos Storm

Indie Retro News: Deimos Storm

Already we’ve had so many game news stories, that at times I could hardly keep up! Games such as Bio Menace, Project Hydron, Superfrog, and OpenTTD are just some of the ones I’ve featured already. Well the Amiga news just keeps on going. As I’ve been informed that Muzza and lzardo2012 are now working on a mech platformer called ‘Deimos Storm’. Not to be confused with all the other mech games that have been archived and drove me insane with all the name changes, such as Operation Steel Rain, Impact Armor Alpha and Operation Steel Rain Prologue.

To follow on from the confusion here’s the latest from the team to put the record straight. “So… its a bit of a mess, but lzardo started the game as Project Steel Rain using Scorpion Engine. Once I got involved we moved to my own custom engine. Progress was slow though as times, and lzardo released a kind of prologue demo called Impact Armor also using Scorpion Engine, but using much of the same artwork. It has nothing to do with me. We agreed these multiple projects were confusing, and I think lzardo took down the other project for now. (to be clear lzardo is the artist, I’m the programmer!). I tried to only briefly mention it in an attempt to focus on what I was hoping would be some positive feedback about THIS game. In hindsight I probably should have produced an elaborate flow chart, with screens and videos of each release and detailed explanation of where we are now . Maybe interviews with us both looking regretful and explaining how poor communication led to this but we’re optimistic for the future.”

Credits :

  • Author/credits: Muzza
  • Art: Luis “Razor” Zardo
  • Programming: Alastair Murray
  • Music: Simone “JMD” Bernacchia

Extra Notes :

  • Copper driven blitter to do the animated loading screen
  • Scrolling, player + controls run at 50hz. Enemies at 25hz.
  • AGA, 2MB Fast RAM, and a full joypad.

And that’s all there is to say about the game. Lets hope we get a more detailed description from the developer and this game continues at pace with no more name or team changes!
