Amiga developer Acidbottle has announced the release of the horizontal shoot-’em-up project Defender, a faithful recreation of the classic arcade hit. The game’s journey to the platform is a unique one, having initially started development in the Godot engine on PC. To make the jump to the Amiga however, the developer dusted off the unfinished framework and utilized modern AI tools to assist in translating and optimizing the code across to the Amiga, while using the official arcade source code as a strict reference point to hopefully bring across this authentic gameplay feel.
The current build targets higher end setups, requiring an 020 processor, AGA chipset, and fast RAM, though the developer is open to exploring a more accessible OCS/ECS version down the line depending on the feedback given from this latest release. So yes, if you want to play this latest Arcade classic on your Amiga then come and check it out via the official Acidbottle Itch.io Page and report any software glitches or “weirdness” to help refine future updates.
