Exciting news for ColecoVision fans! I’ve just learned via Facebook that the classic World War II game ‘Beach Head,’ created by Access Software in 1983, is set to make its way to the ColecoVision, developed by Shaoth. The developer has indicated that the core gameplay is currently being tested, and besides a thread open for player feedback, enhancements including improved sounds and graphics may be on the horizon, capitalizing on the ColecoVision’s capabilities.
According to its Wikipedia entry, this game was the best-selling title for Commodore by late 1987. “Set during the Pacific theater of World War II, gameplay consists of several stages where players control various vehicles, such as warships and tanks, to defeat an enemy fleet, breach beach defenses, and destroy a massive gun emplacemente to achieve victory. The gun emplacement demands multiple hits for destruction, but moves faster than tanks can aim and fire, necessitating several attempts to succeed. Completing the game requires multiple tanks to reach the final level.”
