Indie Retro News: Batman - Classic Isometric game by Ocean Software looks super on the Sinclair QL!

Many of you may remember the classic isometric games from the 1980s, like Batman and Head Over Heels, created by Ocean Software. These beloved titles were available on platforms such as the Amstrad, ZX Spectrum, and even saw a recent remake for the MSX2. Here’s some exciting news for fans: Batman has now been released for the Sinclair QL! According to developer Joan Gayón, “Batman, Jon Ritman’s legendary 1986 game is now available for the retro-computer Sinclair QL, with various versions for both the original hardware and a newly developed emulator.”

In an update, Gayón shared, “I began this project in late 2020 to showcase the potential of a computer that lacked extensive gaming software and was largely overlooked. Initially, I aimed to create a small ‘technical demo’ of my favorite childhood game. However, as the coding progressed, it became evident that creating even a simple demo would require nearly the entire game to be developed. Once I started, I felt compelled to prove it was achievable. Little did I know of the challenges ahead; it reminded me of a movie line about solving one problem only to face the next.”
