Gilligan’s Mine: A Feature on Indie Retro News

Indie Retro News: Gilligan's Mine

Clebin Games has recently released a high quality ZX Spectrum 128k remake of the 1980’s game Gilligan’s Gold / Bagman. The game, which inspired newer versions such as Bagman Strikes Back, Bagman Comes Back, and Super Bagman for the Amiga and C64, now has an updated version that maintains its classic gameplay. Check out the latest footage of the game below for a sneak peek at the gameplay.

The objective of the game is to navigate the mine, using minecarts, ladders, and lifts to collect all the gold bags and bring them to your wheelbarrow before time runs out. Evade bandits by riding a minecart or knock them out by dropping gold bags on their heads. Axes can also be found to disable the bandits. Be strategic in saving an axe to enter the sealed cavern.

The creator of the remake aims to preserve the original game’s great concepts, strategic gameplay, and variety of mechanics while improving graphics, controls, and difficulty level. Two new levels with different themes have been added to enhance the gaming experience.

Release Date: 31 December 2024

  • The full 1.0 release of Gilligan’s Mine includes improvements such as new music by Lee Bee, a new ‘spooky’ Level 2, and a selectable ‘easy’ mode with reduced difficulty.
