Bubble Bobble is Receiving a C64 Remaster, and It Looks Fantastic!

Bubble Bobble is getting a C64 remaster and it looks GOOD!

Great news for fans of Taito’s Bubble Bobble! A new remastered version, ‘Bubble Bobble Remastered’, is set to launch for the Commodore 64. This updated edition is garnering positive feedback, with comments like “The C64 version is the one I played the most, and this looks fantastic” and “Wow, great job! Close to the arcade original!” You can explore the latest gameplay footage and updates about the project.

In the latest update titled “Bubble Bobble C64 Remastered – WIP 4 – We’re getting there!”, a lot of progress has been made. All core graphics have been finalized, collectible items have been redesigned in color, many discrepancies with the arcade version have been resolved, and the information panel has been revamped. Even the font has been updated to match the classic arcade style. Can you identify all the new changes?

The overall aesthetics are now much closer to the classic arcade game, while still adhering to the Commodore 64’s limitations. Some compromises were necessary, but we’ve maximized the old hardware’s capabilities while keeping the original game engine intact. There’s still programming to be completed to fix some graphical issues, and we may even find ways to enhance gameplay. We’d love to hear your thoughts—thank you for following our progress!

That’s the latest on the game, but feel free to visit the main page (here) or check out Dave’s other remasters (here).
