As a child, playing “The Lion King” on my Game Boy, I never imagined that in 2024 the musical would still be thriving on Broadway and a new film, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” would be released in December.
When the original “The Lion King” premiered in 1994, it was always sold out at my local theater. Despite not being into Disney movies at the time, the film intrigued me due to its massive popularity. I eventually watched it on video and was impressed by the voice acting.
Playing “The Lion King” game on Game Boy proved challenging at first with controlling Simba during different levels. The game’s progression as Simba ages was a highlight.
“The Lion King” has surprisingly not been heavily featured in Disney parks. However, with Disney planning a Disney villains themed park, it’s likely that Scar will finally be included. Scar is considered one of the top Disney villains, alongside characters like Lady Tremaine from “Cinderella.”
Surprised by the announcement of “Mufasa: The Lion King,” I found the trailer interesting. While not overly excited for another installment, I acknowledge the consistent success and appeal of the franchise.
“The Lion King” remains one of the longest-running musicals on Broadway and the 2019 animated remake generated $1.6 billion worldwide.
