Review of Retro Racers Moto Roader by Todd Friedman

Retro Racers Moto Roader - Review by Todd Friedman

This 2D race car game has a nostalgic 16-bit look reminiscent of arcade games like Off-Road. The objective is simple: race to the finish line before your opponents. Along the track, you can collect special items and utilize a turbo boost icon to gain an edge over your competitors. Playing on the Nintendo Switch, I found the driving mechanics to be smooth, requiring some practice to master vehicle control. The joy-cons add a nice touch, enhancing the gaming experience with the analog stick.

Single player mode offers a variety of game modes including single races, time attack, record checking, and course design. The game features diverse tracks with detailed obstacles, with personal favorites being the Nature and City courses. Players can choose from multiple cars and characters, each requiring practice to master their unique attributes. The Nintendo Switch version supports local multiplayer for up to 5 players, enhancing the fun for players of all ages.

Features: Classic legacy title, multiple cars and drivers to choose from, numerous race tracks, multiple game modes including bumper car challenges, up to 4 player local coop (up to 5 on Switch).

Ratalaika Games has successfully blended retro aesthetics with modern console gameplay in this unique driving game. The sound design immerses players in the race with detailed engine, brake, and weapon noises. Overall, the game captures the essence of classic overhead racing games, offering a pure driving experience without distractions.
