Release Date for “Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day” Set for June 9, 2025

Monkey Wrench Films has announced a global TVOD and digital release for the documentary *Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day*, which premiered in theaters earlier this year. This musical documentary explores the life of Walter Day, the founder of Twin Galaxies, addressing the legal challenges he faced while also pursuing his passion for recording and performing rock-opera style love songs that have been in his mind since his heartbreak during the arcade heyday. Walter Day is perhaps best recognized as the referee from *The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters*.

The repercussions of *The King of Kong* are among the topics examined in the new documentary, directed by Ed Cunningham, the same filmmaker behind the original hit. The film, which gained significant attention on the festival circuit in 2007, was instrumental in the legal battles Walter Day faced. Interestingly, it also inspired some fans to financially support Day in his efforts to realize his dream of creating and performing his love songs.

At seventy-four years old, Walter Day continues to share his story. The initial release of *Arcades & Love Songs: The Ballad of Walter Day* coincided with the release of his autobiography, *The Ballad of Walter Day: Autobiography of an Arcade Legend*.
