In the current resurgence of Atari 2600 games following the launch of the 2600+, prices for these vintage cartridges are on the rise. It is now more crucial than ever to determine the quality of the games found in these increasingly costly plastic cases. In this video, I rank every game published by third-party developer, U.S. Games.
Originally focused on handheld electronic sports games, U.S. Games Corporation shifted to exclusively develop video game software in 1981. The company was acquired by cereal manufacturer Quaker Oats in 1982 to create games for the Atari 2600. Some of their early titles carried the name “Vidtec,” but it was later replaced and all subsequent releases featured the “U.S. Games” branding.
During their brief period of existence, U.S. Games released fourteen titles for the beloved Atari VCS. As always, I aim to assess these games not from a modern standpoint, but through the eyes of twelve-year-old me – envisioning how I would have ranked these games after convincing my parents to buy them and eagerly tearing off the cellophane to play on my console.
