Norbert’s Commodore 64 Centipede Emulator

A Centipede Emulator for the Commodore 64 by Norbert!

Welcome to Centipede for the C64 as an emulator by Norbert. Originally released by Atari in 1980 as a vertical fixed shooter, Centipede also inspired a nostalgic Pixel movie. In this game, players must defend their garden against spiders, scorpions, and a pesky splitting Centipede. To complement this piece of gaming history, Saberman has shared gameplay footage of the Centipede Emulator for the C64!

Here’s the latest update from the developer: “The arcade machine runs on a 6502 CPU and Atari’s POKEY sound chip. It has been ported to various hardware platforms over the years, including modern smartphones. Emulators like MAME have made it possible to play classics like Centipede on today’s computers. This Centipede emulator for the Commodore 64 directly emulates the arcade machine’s CPU using the C64’s 6510 processor, while simulating the video and sound hardware with specific Assembly language routines. Although some compromises had to be made due to the C64’s limitations in resolution, sprites, and colors, the original gameplay is faithfully reproduced.”
