Indie Retro News: XWheels Grand Slam
As a passionate fan of top-down racing games, I have to admit that many of them leave much to be desired. I’ll never forget the enjoyment I had playing titles like Micro Machines and Supercars with my friends. Now, a fresh contender has arrived: ‘XWheels Grandslam’ by -Corso-. Although it’s still in prototype stages and its future as a full game is uncertain, the project has piqued my interest with its description: “Inspired by Supercars 1 & 2 on the Amiga, this remake features hand-drawn artwork, destructible environments, and heightened difficulty.” I felt it deserved a spotlight!
Here are the complete details: “This game embodies the spirit of 1990s supercars and the arcade games that featured them. It boasts painstakingly hand-drawn tracks and pixel art vehicles, creating a vibrant aesthetic. The goal? To wreck as much as possible while racing powerful sports cars. Players can select from various tracks, each with destructible surroundings, including shopping malls, national treasures, rural landscapes, mining operations, jungles, dirt roads, train crossings, antique shops, active volcanoes, and even an Amazoom warehouse.”
