Arcade Classic OutRun Revived by Indie Retro News

Indie Retro News: OutRun Arcade

Sega released Out Run in 1986, a popular arcade racer designed by Yu Suzuki. Recently, a developer has been working on a superior version of Outrun for the Commodore Amiga. The project is nearing completion and the developer aims to fix the issues present in the original Amiga arcade port.

The developer shared updates on the project’s progress, mentioning that the game has been successfully ported and is now running at about 15 fps on an 030. They have optimized the video rendering and hope that the game will run smoothly on an 040 at 30fps. The port includes bug fixes, enhanced graphics, and new features, while maintaining the original gameplay experience.

Despite the availability of OutRun on modern platforms like Mame and Nintendo Switch, the developer’s motivation comes from overcoming technical challenges and finding creative solutions. They plan to release YouTube documentaries and source code to showcase their work and welcome feedback.
