Aleksi Eeben’s Unofficial Elite Port for the VIC 20 (32K + 3K RAM)

Elite for the VIC 20 (32K + 3K RAM) as an unofficial port by Aleksi Eeben!

The unofficial port of Elite for the VIC-20, developed by Aleksi Eeben, is a homage to the classic space-sim game that many remember fondly. The VIC-20 version, based on the C-64 source, features VIC-20 specific graphics, text, keyboard & joystick input, and sound routines. However, due to memory limitations, some features such as extended planet descriptions and missions had to be left out. Despite these constraints, the VIC-20 version includes 30 different ships and both Coriolis and Dodo Space Stations, making it arguably bigger and better than the original versions. The port is heavily inspired by Mark Moxon’s digital archaeology project on Elite for various 8-bit platforms. The development of Elite for the Commodore 64 was done by Ian Bell and David Braben and is protected by copyright. Mark Moxon’s work is based on the source disks released on Ian Bell’s personal website.
